| Tech Check 09/08/05 - Digital Pictures part 2 |
Two weeks ago, we began what will end up being a three part series on digital photography, last week we focused on the Katrina situation, and this week we take a look at what to do with your digital pictures.
Sam talked about Picasa, a free digital picture editor and sorter available from Google. Picasa is easy to use, and makes adding pictures to a blog very easy in conjunction with Hello. I talked about Flickr, which is a free and easy to use photo sharing site. If you have a lot of pictures that you want to share with friends and relatives, you can upload them to Flickr, and send your friends the link. Flickr is very easy to use, and will resize your pictures to make them easy to view online. You can also use Flickr in conjunction with your blog, as our friend Jeremy Flint does, and as the youth group at our church does: CahabaYouth.com (click to visit)
You can also get your digital pictures printed at a surprisingly good cost. The cheapest we've found is Winkflash (click here), which is offering an introductory price of 8 cents per print, plus 99 cents shipping - not bad. (we haven't tried them yet) Walmart has pretty good deal as well - Upload your pictures to the Walmart Photo Center, and then pick them up an hour later at a Walmart near you! Very convenient, but a bit pricier at 19 cents per print.
Finally we recommend you store your pictures on Optical Media like a Cd or DVD. Cd's are better than DVD's because they are more sturdy, and tend to hold up better over the years. Don't skimp either - buy brand name disks to ensure that you get good quality.
